So who is Queen Skittles?!

Queen Skittles is Julie Klima Casey. She just rebranded her company from “Weddings By Julie Klima” to “Queen Skittles Photography”! Thanks for checking out our new website!

Where did her nickname “Queen Skittles” come from?

For the past 10 years, Julie has dyed her hair a variety of colors- it started with blue and changed into any and all colors throughout the years! Magenta & blue, green & blue & pink, purple & red, rainbow, red & yellow & blue & green & purple- you get the idea! Her go-to colors of choice are magenta & blue. Hence, a friend named her Skittles and it stuck!

Where does the “Queen” part come in?

In 2009, Julie did her first photo booth at the historic Zorthian Ranch in Altadena for a fundraiser event. A couple people who run the infamous Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena (www.pasadenadoodahparade.info) were there, met Julie, and decided – “She must be our next Queen of the Parade!” And so it was. And it was glorious! She tried out in the havoc of their crazy Doo Dah Queen tryouts and won! From thereon and so forth, she became Queen Skittles (of the 32nd Pasadena Doo Dah Parade). After her reign as queen, she began a photo series of all the Doo Dah Parade past & present queens (check out the series here: Pasadena Doo Dah Royal Family Portraits).

Why weddings & family events?

Julie began shooting weddings and more family events (Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, anniversaries, birthdays, engagements, proposals) around 6-7 years ago. Before that, she mostly photographed musicians, portraits, fashion, and advertising photography for small businesses. Once she started shooting weddings, she couldn’t stop! Important events last a day (or two!), but photographs last for lifetimes and are passed down to future generations. She loves capturing the most important memories for people to share with their families and friends! As a people person, Julie enjoys meeting and experiencing different families and couples- there are no two alike! Photographing one-time events is challenging and very fast-paced, but she doesn’t mind at all- it’s quite thrilling, actually!

What else does Julie/Queen Skittles do?

Julie, her husband James, and her dog Chikita Banana are avid hikers! They especially enjoy hikes to waterfalls, but any mountain with a beautiful view works for them!

A few of Julie’s friends are in the wine industry, and ever since she met them around 2007, she loves going wine tasting- especially up in Los Olivos/Santa Ynez Valley area. A bold, peppery red is her favorite kind of wine, but she’ll give anything a try! The entire experience of driving around wine country, tasting, and relaxing is one of Julie’s favorite ways to get away from the city. And, speaking of tasting, Julie’s other libation of choice is a good whiskey on the rocks. Usually something peaty or smoky from Scotland or Ireland.

Well, that’s all for now folks! Thanks for reading about Queen Skittles! You are welcome to contact her with any questions you might have about her services or anything else that comes to mind.
